Policies and Procedures

Payment Procedures: All private lessons are billed per the number of scheduled lessons each month, and all school holiday closures are excluded from tuition. Tuition will be collected electronically in automatic payments on the first day of every month via our secure system. Students must provide a valid checking account number or credit card number (additional $4 per month for credit cards) at the time of enrollment. All charges will appear on your bank statement or credit card statement as being from the Powell Academy of Music LLC.

Credit Card Processing Fee: An additional $4 credit card processing fee will be charged monthly to those who choose to use their credit card for automatic billing. Those using their checking account (ACH) will not be billed any additional processing fee. You may change methods any time by logging in to your account.

Student Cancellations: Each student’s private lesson time is reserved exclusively for that student. We do not issue refunds or credits when students miss lessons, nor will we extend lessons due to a student’s late arrival. Because we understand that illness or special situations arise, all students will be permitted to attend one make-up lesson for every missed lesson for which a minimum of 24-hour notice is given to the front desk (not the instructor). For those situations, make-up lessons will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis as they are made available due to other student’s absences. Students will be permitted to choose a make-up lesson from the available make-up lesson times with their instructor. Make-up lessons are valid throughout the duration of the student's enrollment at the Academy, and expire only upon withdrawing.

Instructor Cancellations: In the case that your regular instructor needs to cancel your lesson, we will attempt to secure a substitute instructor. Working with another instructor on rare occasions is a valuable opportunity to gain insight from another professional, and we encourage you to attend as normal. If you decide not to attend, our normal student cancellation procedures will be in effect (see above). If we are unable to secure a substitute instructor, we will have to cancel the lesson and will issue your account with a make-up lesson pass to use at your convenience. You will always receive adequate and timely notification of either situation.

Inclement Weather or Other Emergency Closures: If the school must cancel classes due to extreme weather or events beyond our control such as power outages, students will be given a make-up credit and may reschedule using our regular make-up lesson policy. No refunds for closures will be given.

Communication Opt-In: By completing this agreement you are opting-in to receive text messages (SMS/MMS). These kinds of messages may include appointment reminders, scheduling changes, billing notifications, general information regarding lessons and events, links to sign up for events/recitals and promotional offers. You can opt-out of this service at any time. Just text “STOP” to the phone number. After you text “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS reply to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us.

Withdrawal Policy: We require 30 days notice to discontinue lessons. Withdrawal can be done in-person at the front desk, through calling the main school phone number or by emailing the office. Withdrawal must be done with our office staff and NOT with your instructor. All automatic charges will stop after the 30 days notice period. The school reserves the right to terminate lessons for any reason. In this case a refund of any unused classes will be given.

Care of Students: The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 6 are to remain in the school during classes. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before or after class.

Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for an injury sustained on school property resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during or after class time.
